About Story Walks

The idea behind Story Walks came to me when I moved to Innsbruck with my Tirolean husband.  Having spent 5 years living in Innsbruck previously, I spent the spring and summer of 2014 walking around the city, reacquainting myself with the buildings and the streets and the unexpected squares from Wilten to Pradl, and Hötting to Amras, and beyond.

Somewhere along the way, I started to associate different traditional and folk tales with different parts of the city and set to work on the story walk idea, blending my love of walking with the wonders that Innsbruck has to fer with my background as an oral storyteller.  And so the Story Walks concept was born.

My short (3rd person) biography

Ziyadliwa is a storyteller, writer and illustrator who has been known to dabble in running a visual communications agency to ensure that bills are paid!  Born and raised in South Africa, she has travelled all over the world, and has lived and worked in Johannesburg, London, Paris, Sydney, Colorado, and Innsbruck.  She tells wise and wonderful folk tales, traditional stories and ecological or “green” tales, many of which she has collected on her travels.

In her free time, she is an avid reader, literacy campaigner keen scuba diver, and is interested in marine conservation.  She does her best to tread lightly on the earth (hence Story Walks as opposed to Story Drives).  She is presently working on a series of ocean-focused children’s books.

You can learn more about Ziyadliwa and her storytelling over on her storytelling website.
